Day #29 -- Back & Biceps After Long Break

I could make excuses all day long for the massive lag between this workout and my last one, but I won't waste time with that. I move to California -- that is not a reason to stop P90X. That one is all on me the lazy blog author.

I struggled. I shook, I did not finish. Tony says Do your best, forget the rest.

That can be pretty hard when 'the rest' is staring up at you from the workout log and you're failing to even put up half the numbers you did two weeks ago.

No Ab Ripper X. Pretty pathetic and I will still be sore tomorrow.

Day #28 - Plyo X

P90X. PlyoX. This is the real deal, baby.

I did it with my weight gloves on for about the first 2/3 of the workout, took them off with 21:10 remaining, I was worried I would get all wasted out and not be able to finish.

I almost threw on the Ab Ripper X DVD at the end for a bonus, but my brother (probably wise) recommended I just call it, as I have a Ripper tomorrow and I just did on yesterday.

Uhhhhg ... Next Time Be Good and Get This Instead

Day #27 - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

This is a great workout - I love the variety in push-ups and creative (but safe) dumbbell exercises.

I took it particularly easy on a few of the shoulder / cuff intensive lifts like Scarecrow, Weighted Circles and In & Out Shoulder Flys.

Ab Ripper X was OK.

Trying out a new workout and diet record sheet today.

  1. MyoPlex [500]
  2. Yogurt [170]
  3. 3 Cups Pasta w/ meat sauce [500]
  4. 3 Cups Barley Oatmeal [450]
  5. 1/2 Cup Dried Fruit [120]
  6. P90X Recovery Drink [220]
  7. MyoPlex [500]
Total of 2,460 calories.

As I suspected, I took in far too few calories today and paid for it in the workout.

Skip Day #6

My shoulder i still hurting today, and since my next scheduled workout is Shoulders, Chest & Triceps I will take it easy for one more day.

Friday, November 21, 2008

Skip Day #5

Is it really a skip day if you are legitimately hurt? I am seriously frustrated that I cannot workout but I know if I start messing around it will not get better, just worse.

I put the dumbbells away and took the pull up bar down just in case I got stupid when I was feeling ok with the Advil.

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Skip Day #4

My shoulder hurts.

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Day #26 - Rest

My left shoulder is hurting a lot, I think in the rotator cuff or something is inflamed.

I am going to take Advil and rest.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Day #25 - Yoga X (!!!)

I did it.

I got through the entire Yoga-X DVD.

Every minute, every pose.

Even Twisting Half Moon or whatever that one-legged madness is after standing splits.

WOOT

My left shoulder is pretty sore today from something I did at work ... spent too much time bent over in one position and my shoulder just locked up when I tried to get up. It hurt before Yoga but I was gentle and it feels 100% better now.

Yoga is great :)

Day #24 - Core Synergistics

Much love to this workout. I was exhausted and took lots of breaks with the pause button (and drank some P90X recovery drink) to get through it but I did get in every single rep all the way to the cooldown.

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Day #23 - X-Stretch

Again, did it to my best but couldn't get enough to break a good sweat here.

Should have done another Ab Ripper and gotten to +4 but I forgot.

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Day #22 - Keno-X

Weight gloves again. Did not do the extra Ab-Ripper X because I had to hurry off to my friend's bachelor party.

Friday, November 14, 2008

Day #21 -- Core Synergistics

Core Synergistics is a great workout. I love this one. Gets you good if you bring it.

So this is recovery week. I feel like I need it, even with my recent skip-fest.

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Day #20 - Yoga X Again

Struggled.

A Lot.

Not eating enough good stuff.

Only got about half-way through the balance postures.

Weak.

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Day #19 - Kenpo X

Kenpo X like nobody's business here.

I was freaking tearing it up today, weight gloves AND an extra Ab Ripper X (every rep, baby!)

My chain smoking porn-star neighbor sent her thug of the week up to threaten me about jumping around, so the last 10 minutes of Kenpo-X (a lot of kicks) were done extra hardcore with height and sound.

Total of [+ 3 Ab Ripper X]

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Skip Day #3

I dropped my girl off at the airport today, went home to play games with my friends.

I was either in the car or drinking pretty much all day today so fitting in a workout wasn't going to happen.

Monday, November 10, 2008

Day #18 - Legs & Back

Legs and Back with heavy weights on all the leg exercises.

Crushed out 110 reps in the pull-ups and chin ups.

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Skip Day #2

Just too much fun going on to workout today.

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Day #17 - Shoulders & Arms

Destroyed Shoulders & Arms with and Ab Ripper X while she was taking a nap.

Maxing out my current dumbbells on almost every exercise here.

Friday, November 7, 2008

Skip Day #1

Getting my girl from the airport today ...

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Day #16 - Plyo X

I wasn't able to finish this today, ran out of gas about 75% of the way in, had to FF to the cool down.

I got sick a few minutes later. I did not eat enough today.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Day #15 - Chest & Back

I am sore today from getting a Flu Shot at work during our health and benefits fair. Long day at work as well so I did not finish the Ab Ripper until 2:30AM.

This is the start of week #3. Tough workout here, Ab Ripper was brutal after all those perfectly formed, strong-core pushups in Chest & Back. Overall, reps still not impressive compared to Week #1, just a little bit better on some, little bit worse on others.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Day #14 - Stretch-X (and a bonus Ab Ripper X)

I really like the Stretch-X workout. This was one of the surprise bonus in the P90X DVD set -- Stretch-X is a great way to rest a day. I think skipping altogether is counter productive, so I always try to do Stretch-X if possible.

Today, I did not break a sweat in Stretch so I felt pretty good and did an extra Ab Ripper X.

Total of [+ 2 Ab Ripper X]

Monday, November 3, 2008

Day #13 - Kenpo-X

Always one of my favorites. Taking my P90X Vitamin supplement and Myoplex but still ran out of energy by the end of this. Maximum intensity today and those hand weights really turn this workout up a level or two.

Sunday, November 2, 2008

Day #12 - Legs & Back

I got a really late start on this workout, was not finished with the Ab Ripper until about 2AM because I was dropping my (already missed) brother off at the airport so he could fly home with his lady.

I got up to 104 reps today in Legs and Back, but had a moderate to mild Ab-Ripper X today.

Saturday, November 1, 2008

Day #11 -- Yoga X with my brother

Today is my birthday.
  • I am 27 years old.
  • I weigh 148 pounds today.
  • My body fat is 3.2% by digital scale.

My brother is home for the big party this weekend.

I am extremely excited and we both get to do P90X together.

Yoga-X is not the most fun workout to do with someone else, but it is what is up for both our schedules so, Namasta.

Friday, October 31, 2008

Day #10 - Shoulders & Arms

Good workout, needed the P90X recovery drink aftewards.

Had to skip the Ab Ripper X to get to the air port to pick up my brother.

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Day #9 - Plyometrics

With weight gloves again. Plyo-X is a hardcore workout.

I love the Myoplex protein supplements I have been drinking. They're not dessert material, no, but they are plenty edible and pack 87% of your Daily Allowance of Protein, and it is not all soy based.

Stayed really intense through the core of the exercise routine, but ran out of steam for the bonus...

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Day #7 - Yoga X

Yoga X rocks me. I struggle with it every time.

Today, I just ran out of steam after about 50 minutes. I started at 12:12am though, which is a little late for me.

This is my makeup for that skip day I took mid week, and I am going to trade Yoga today for rest that previous day.

Monday, October 27, 2008

Day #6 - Kenpo X

Welcome to Kenpo-X ...
It is your enemies that it wrecks
I love Kenpo-X because it flies by so fast.

To add intensity to Kenpo-X, go at your own pace on all exercises (maximum reps in allotted time) and use weighted gloves, like the 1.5 pound ones I am wearing.

Kenpo-X always flies by for me, and while I get a great burn from it I always have tons of energy left over at the end (it must be all the yelling and punching!) so I knocked out an extra Ab Ripper X today.

+1 Ab Ripper X

Sunday, October 26, 2008

Day #5 -- Legs & Back

Let me say that I love Legs and Back. It killed me the first time I tried P90X but now it is one of my favorites, and you get to do it every single week for the entire program. Tony loves this workout and so do I.

Today I did 100 pull up / chin up moves and weighed in at 144 pounds.

Love that Ab Ripper X.

Need the P90X Recovery drink after this one.

Legs & Back

I am really happy about it.

Today, during Legs & Back (P90X, Phase 1) ...

I did 101 pull-up and chin-up moves
.

When I started the program months ago I was unable to do pull-up and chin-up moves during the 60 minute workout.

It took me a week or working at it before I could do two of them and three weeks before I could do 20 in the workout.

This is progress and it really shows on my workout logs and when I step on the scale. I weighed in at 144.7 pounds this morning when I woke up (dehydrated and unfed!)

Big improvement considering I started the program under 130.

Saturday was "hell day" on my training schedule, and I was looking pretty rough this morning. Went out to breakfast with my family, and of course, in my filthy exhausted state I run into an old friend who probably thinks I'm falling apart -- disheveled, unshaven and bleary eyed.

I really am OK everyone -- I am just pushing.

Day #4 - Rest

Already? I just didn't have time today, but I resolve to go after it tomorrow.

Friday, October 24, 2008

Day #3 -- Shoulders & Arms

Shoulders and Arms is dumbbell city and this is one workout where I really appreciate the rapid change features on BowFlex Select Tech dumbbells.

I am careful not to work out to the breaking point (dropping point) so they work well for me. I also really like being able to hit odd weights like 22.5 and 12.5, which provide easier transitions upward as you get stronger.

Ab Ripper, again, rules.

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Day #2 -- Plyometrics X

Plyometrics, or "Jump Training" is a hardcore cardio workout. If you perform the first 30 minutes at high intensity, you can easily hit your max limits in the second part. Look for your second wind during Military March ... you'll need it.

In an effort to up the game here, I perform this entire workout (warmup and cooldown excluded) in 1.5 pound weighted exercise gloves. This really adds a lot of upper body toning in addition to the lower body pounding Tony will put on you in Plyo-X.

Day #1 -- Chest & Back

My first workout of P90X (for real this time!) starting with Chest & Back.

This is a great workout -- simple and engaging. Pull ups, push ups and lawnmowers.

  • I need more weight in Heavy Pants and Lawn Mowers.
  • Ab Ripper X rules, great core
